Todays recommendation is a bit of a you’ll love it ir hate it kinda film,
I personally loved this film, but i know some didn’t, and more didn’t quite get it.
The Visit is about a brother and sister who go spend some time with their estranged grandparents, but it’s not long before things go from odd to scary.
This is a film by M. Night Shyamalan, a filmmaker that if you’re not familiar with made the films, The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village, and his newest film, Glass.
I’m a really big fan of his, not only did he make my favourite superhero film, but he also made what to me is the most terrifying film ever, and i haven’t been able to watch past the line, “there’s a monster in my room, can I have a glass of water.”
He’s one of my favourite filmmakers because he’s surprising, he doesn’t really play by the rules. He’ll lure you in to the comforts of a genre, and then take you down a completely different route, but it’s done so seamlessly and cleverly that you get to the end and just think wow.
This is why i think some may not have liked The Visit. It was very much marketed as a horror film, and in a lot of ways it is, it still has that tension, and some great jump scares, but its also really quite funny.
Go in to this film with no expectations and don’t try and guess where it’s going, just enjoy the ride.
You can currently find it on Netflix.
